This information is currently being updated so please refer to the attached PDF file Click here PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Landscape and Nursery Program at Michigan State University offers men and women specialized training for employment. The program combines the theories and principles of classroom instruction with the practical experience gained through a professional internship within the industry. The Landscape and Nursery Program is diverse, encompassing the production, selection, use and care of ornamental plants. The curriculum combines the foundations of plant growth and development, the related sciences influencing plant growth such as soils, entomology and pathology, with the mechanical aspects of production systems and equipment operations. The landscape design courses offer students oppotunities to develop and express their own creativity. Designers develop the relationships among plants, buildings, and site conditions. Landscape construction courses focus on contruction operations, craftmanship, and conract management. The courses are designed to expose students to instruction necessary to form the foundations for successful entry into their chosen profession. Students are prepared for entry into nursery production, landscape design/construction, landscape maintenance and garden center operations. The program consists of two 15-week semesters and one 9-week semester and an internship experience, for a total of 48 credits. A certificate is granted at the completion of the program requirements. The Landscape and Nursery Program is well respected by nurserymen and landscape contractors from around the country.
