The Ag Tech program at Michigan State University is a two-year program. The program is an 18-month training program that begins in a Fall Semester. The first semester is spent on campus where students are involved in course work. The following semester (Spring) 10-weeks are spent on campus and 6-12 weeks are spent off campus working in an internship position. After the internship students return to campus for one more semester of course work before graduating with a certificate.

· Dairy Management, Coordinator: Dr. J. Domecq
Dairy farming is among the leading agricultural enterprises in Michigan. The Dairy Management Program has been developed to meet the specialized needs of the herd manager and commercial dairy farmer. Opportunities abound for persons with classroom training and practical experience. Areas of study include dairy herd management, nutrition, artificial insemination, crops and farm management.

· Beef Cattle Management, Coordinator: Dr. D. Banks
This certificate program is designed to allow students the opportunity to specialize in the area of beef cattle management with a one-year intensified program. It provides students greater knowledge and experience in the management of both cow/calf and feedlot enterprises. Students interested in gaining additional information fro the family farm or seeking employment in the industry will benefit from this great one-year program.

· Horse Management, Coordinator: Ms. C. Heleski
Horse Management is among the newest of the two-year programs being offered at MSU. The program emphasizes on management and equine skills that prepare students for positions in Michigan's growing industry. There are many opportunities for graduates in the saddle, pleasure and racehorse industry.

· Electrical Technology, Coordinator: Mr. J. Althouse
Electrical Technology is and electrical apprenticeship training program covering commercial, farm, residential and light industrial wiring. Students study the latest National Electrical Code, electrical fundamentals and solid-state electronic applications in agriculture, housing and industry. Advanced technical training is important for a successful career as an electrician in agriculture and industry.

· Enology, Coordinator: Ms. J. Dwyer
With the expansion of the grape and wine industry in the Midwest, there is an increasing demand for experience individuals who have technical and practical knowledge in wine production. The Enology Program at MSU is a 16 to 24 month effort that emphasizes the chemistry and analytical techniques involved in wide production. Individuals will also be exposed to the methods of wine cellar management and winery operations.

· Landscape and Nursery, Coordinator: Mr. M. Duck
The Landscape and Nursery Program at MSU offers a diverse and encompassing training in production, selection, use and care of ornamental plants. The curriculum combines the foundations of plant growth and development, the related sciences influencing plant growth such as soils, entomology and pathology. It also covers technical aspects including landscape design, construction and management. The landscape and nursery industry is a rapidly expanding industry looking for individuals interested in developing and working with people, horticulture and the outdoor environment.

· Turfgrass Management (Sports and Commercial), Coordinator: Mr. D. Gilstrap
The turfgrass industry has many interesting and exciting careers. A new program emphasis is being offered to people interested in specializing in a career in the law care/ athletic field management area. This area is rapidly growing and offers rewarding job opportunities. Program offerings will be integrated with other areas in trufgrass and landscape nursery. Course offerings will include technical, communication, math and business.

· Turfgrass Management (Golf Course), Coordinator: Dr. J. Rogers
With well over 14,000 golf courses in the United States and with expansion continuing at a steady rate, there is a demand for technically trained personnel to provide management. Training in turfgrass management with a golf course emphasis is directed toward preparing the student for a career as a golf course superintendent.

· Viticulture, Coordinator: Ms. J. Dwyer
With vineyard acreage rapidly increasing and the addition of many grade cultivars that are adaptable to Midwestern environmental conditions, the demand for skilled personnel is on the rise. The Viticulture Program at MSU is a 16 to 24 month comprehensive study focused on the planning, establishment and management of the vineyard. The program offers a specialized technical and practical training for employment in the continually growing field of viticulture. This interactive study incorporates the principles and practices of canopy and crop management for application and utilization in the vineyard to promote quality grape production.
