Students can participate in the Big Ten tradition as competing members or cheering fans of Michigan State University's 24 intercollegiate athletic teams. MSU also provides one of the nation's largest intramural programs; last year more than 2,300 teams competed in two dozen different sports. The campus affords numerous recreational opportunities, including golf courses, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, hiking trails, and bike paths. You can canoe in the summer and cross-country in the winter.

You may find yourself performing with one of 13 music and theatre organizations, strolling among the paintings and sculptures at the Kresge Art Museum, browsing through natural history exhibits at the MSU Museum, or watching a world premiere in the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.

Complementing campus life is the adjacent city of East Lansing, which is noted for its vibrant atmosphere. Shops, restaurants, malls, houses of workshop, and convenient mass transit all enthusiastically welcome MSU students. Lansing, the state capital, is only ten minus away. Numerous internships and part-time jobs can be found in state government offices and nonprofit agencies.

More than 350 student organizations are registered on campus, from the Preveterinary Medical Association to the MSU Skydiving Club. Your residence hall floor may sponsor events for disadvantaged children, provide literacy tutoring, or help build a house through the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Students can also volunteer their time and talents to the community through the MSU Service Learning Center.
