Mission

"To make accessible to the people of Michigan, the benefits of post secondary education designed to prepare students with specific skills and knowledge that will qualify them for technical or entry level management positions for agriculture, natural resources, and related industries"

Welcome to the Institute of Agricultural Technology or more commonly known as "AG TECH". We have been on the campus since 1894 when MSU was known as Michigan Agricultural College. It all started in the Agriculture Department with a program in Farm Dairying. The farm dairying course was intended to train people for milk production and on the farm butter making. As the demand for skilled labor increased so did the AG TECH programs.

Focused education is at the heart of AG TECH. Each program is specifically developed to address the needs of the commodity or profession it serves. Courses combine theory with practice. It is important for our students to be well educated to accept responsibility and to be able to perform the duties required in their respective professions. AG TECH programs pride themselves with being on the cutting edge of industry operations whether it is in the field, barn, garage, laboratory, greenhouse, or office.

AG TECH has the resources of MSU at its finger tips. Our programs are housed in the academic units of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, exposing our students to the latest scientific discoveries and technological developments. Students are taught by knowledgeable faculty and staff who are directly involved with research and the transfer of new and innovative technologies to the industry. The close working relationship between faculty and industry keeps us current and serves our students well when seeking internships or full time employment. Academic programs are also supported by a tremendous infrastructure that includes laboratories, greenhouses, field stations, and farms.

Being a student on this campus may seem overwhelming at times, but in AG TECH, we pride ourselves on providing personal attention, whether it is from the central office or from coordinators within each of our programs. Please browse through our pages and if you have any questions feel free to contact us in the AG TECH central office or our coordinators in their departments.
