Safe, Affirming & Fair Environments Curriculum
The Be SAFE: Safe, Affirming and Fair Environments curriculum is designed for adults to use with adolescents ages 11 to 14 in a variety of out-of-school settings, such as 4-H, afterschool programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouts and faith-based programs. The comprehensive curriculum, which can also be used within middle school settings, includes more than 30 engaging and experiential activities designed for group learning. Michigan State University Extension provides workshops about how to use the curriculum, as well as evaluation support for groups interested in identifying the impacts of using the curriculum within their settings.
The Be SAFE curriculum is available in print, CD and flash drive formats. To learn more about ordering the curriculum, go to the University Bookstore and search for “Be SAFE.” A free download of the curriculum introduction is available here.
Be SAFE curriculum workshops can be tailored to your specific group or organization. For more information, contact Janet Olsen or Karen Pace, co-authors of the Be SAFE: Safe, Affirming and Fair Environments curriculum.
Your program was an excellent resource for helping our youth and adults become more aware of the many aspects of bullying.– Leader of a youth program
As a result of your program, our adults are more open to understanding young people, and the youth seem to better recognize how much concern and care the adults have for their safety. – Leader of a youth program
