Budget Information
This section of the CANR website is intended to provide startegic planning and budget information of value to faculty and staff members of the College. Linked below are documents focused on budget planning within the CANR and across MSU.
Dean's Note to Faculty:
Dear CANR, MSUE & MAES Faculty and Administrators, As you know, Michigan and Michigan State University are facing unprecedented financial challenges.
Dealing with this situation requires our best and most collaborative thinking. Despite the financial adversity that we face, this situation is also an opportunity for the college to rethink where we are headed, how we operate, and what we fund. Financial stress often brings greater focus to our essential functions and the alignment between what we value and what we do. While many of our higher education colleagues are looking to short-term, stop-gap budget solutions, MSU and the CANR are approaching the situation with a long-term, multi-year perspective.
This institutional budget strategy starts with a cumulative, 15-percent reduction to our operating budgets over the next four years. (Note, the planned budget reductions for MAES and MSUE is lower as we do not include the 1-percent efficiency factor in their budget planning]. Department chairs, school directors and college leadership have worked over the last few months to identify how these reductions can be realized while maintaining the college’s strengths and academic standards.
I invite all faculty and senior administrators to attend a presentation about the CANR budget forecast for FY 2010-2013 on May 28 from 3p.m. to 5p.m. in 103 Erickson Hall (the Kiva).
The program will be a brief presentation followed by a question and answer period. Topics to be addressed are:
• Broad outline for achieving reduction plans and its impact on the future of the CANR
• Potential for AN/AY faculty conversions
• Department, school and ANR budget recommendations
This presentation is the start of an ongoing conversation that will continue throughout the summer and into the fall.
I hope that you will join us on May 28.
