Liberty Hyde Bailey Scholars Program Funding Priorities
The Declaration of Bailey, which defines the guiding framework for the Bailey Scholars Program, states: "The Bailey Scholars Program seeks to be a community of scholars dedicated to lifelong learning. All members of the community work toward providing a respectful trusting environment where we acknowledge our interdependence and encourage personal growth." This unique undergraduate specialization offers undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff opportunities to pursue learning interests in a collaborative and experiential environment. Endowments for the Bailey Program are designed to enhance student learning experiences, as well as provide unique learning opportunities for all members of the Bailey community through interacting with and learning from visiting lecturers.
The George and Agnes Greenleaf Scholar Enrichment Endowed Fund The grandfather of an undergraduate Bailey scholar initiated this fund. It is intended to encourage students to enter into study abroad and/or international internships, and to view overseas travel experiences as a high quality educational resource. Once endowed, it will provide support to students seeking to participate in international programs, conferences, and activities. Monies generated for this enrichment fund would assist in establishing this endowment.
The Frank A. and Kathleen L. Fear Bailey Student Experiences Endowed Fund Named in honor of the first chairperson of the Liberty Hyde Bailey Scholars Program, this fund was initiated to encourage students to achieve their educational and professional goals. Once endowed, it will support undergraduate student learning needs in two areas: travel and fees associated with participating in professional conferences, seminars, and meetings, particularly those in which the students represent the Bailey Scholars Program. It will also support expenses associated with study/travel abroad organized through MSU or at an overseas institution. Monies generated for this enrichment fund would assist in establishing this endowment.
Visiting Lectureship Endowment Bailey Program has benefited from interactions with a variety of national and internationally known scholars. Funding assistance would allow Bailey to continue to invite these scholars to campus for the enrichment not only of the Bailey program, but also across the CANR and the University. Funds from this endowment would provide expenses and fees for visiting lecturers, whose visits might range from one day to two weeks.
Graduate Teaching Fellowships Graduate students participating in the Bailey Scholars Program have benefited from the opportunity to interact with undergraduates and faculty/staff in curricular and co-curricular settings. These funds will assist graduate Bailey Scholars in enhancing their teaching portfolios by providing support for participation in conferences, workshops, and training programs that promote and enhance their skills in teaching and learning.
