Partners in Diversity
CANR’s diversity programs have had a positive track record of attracting high caliber students that have gone on to professional success. Our office has an ongoing effort to seek community and industry partners in our initiatives. Short explanations of some of our current programs are listed below. Contact us to further inquire about these programs.
ANR Diversity Speaker Series
We invite representatives from the agriculture and
natural resource industry to speak to students, faculty,
and staff about relevant topics in Agriculture & Natural Resources or
organizational related issues. Past speakers have included organizational
representatives, environmentalists, educational leaders and politicians. A
committee of students and faculty organize the speaker’s visit and agenda, thus
creating an opportunity for student leadership development. The series hosts
approximately one speaker per month during the academic year (August – May).
Mentoring Program
The Office of Diversity and Pluralism seeks mentors to work with graduate or
undergraduate students. Mentors will be paired with motivated scholars and
establish regular communication throughout the school year. Mentoring programs
establish a connection between motivated students and professionals in
agriculture and natural resources. It helps students better understand
expectations of professional careers. The organization representative also
gets a chance to interact with some of the brightest students in CANR.
Essay and Public Speaking Contests
Sponsorship opportunities are available for essay, public speaking and research
presentation competitions to develop professional writing, speaking and
presenting skills among multicultural students. Contests are conducted on the
college level. Participants are also encouraged to compete at national
conferences or other organizations and activities.
Internships
Each year several bright students seek professional internship opportunities
with food, agriculture and natural resources (FANR) corporations, agencies and
organizations. We are seeking corporate partners to provide competitive
internship opportunities for qualified multicultural students in the FANR
related fields.
