Students from MSU won a 1st place Platinum placing in the Seventh Annual North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) held April 4-5, 2008 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with 31 teams from the United States and one team from Canada competing.
The team from MSU consisted of: Christine Hadley, Niles; Ashley Messing, Bad Axe; Andrew Reinker, Horton; and Laura Zeldenrust, Fremont. Herb Bucholtz, Marcus Hollman, and Miriam Weber Nielsen coached the team.
NAIDC is an innovative two-day competition for students representing dairy science programs at North American universities. It enables students to apply theory and learning to a real-world dairy, while working as part of a four-person team.
Michigan State Animal Science accomplishments from undergraduates include the Academic Quadrathlon Team at the ASAS Midwest meetings in Des Moines, Iowa. Team members included: Gail Carpenter, ANS Junior from Dansville; Bobby Laux, ANS Sophomore from Petersburg; Erica Wines, ANS Senior from Richland; and Jason Scramlin, ANS Junior form Holly. After capturing first place among 8 teams at the Block and Bridle/MSU local competition, this team represented MSU very well at the Midwest completion. The MSU team placed first in both the Sheep lab and General Lab of the lab practical. They also competed in a written exam, a quiz bowl and an oral presentation. Well done guys!
