MSU Global will be hosting its next Fanning-the-Flames discussion on “Mega-Events - Experimenting with Courses Wrapped around Live Events,” on Friday, April 25 from 11 a.m.-noon, in Room 301 of the Nisbet Building on the campus of MSU in East Lansing. Registration is available online for this free event that is open to the public.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in conjunction with live global events produce interesting results. Faculty members Mark Wilson and Eva Kassens-Noor from the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction, and Lisa Robinson from MSU Libraries, recently completed a MOOC that was offered in parallel with the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. They are also in the planning stages for another MOOC beginning June 2014 that will run in conjunction with the 2014 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

Dr. Mark Wilson, a Professor in the SPDC Urban & Regional Planning (URP) Program in the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) and Director of SPDC Global; Dr. Eva Kassens-Noor, Assistant Professor for the SPDC URP and the MSU Global Urban Studies Program; and Lisa Robinson, head of metadata management for MSULibraries, will talk about their recent experiences hosting a MOOC on the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics earlier this spring.

Join the faculty for a discussion regarding their motivations for developing these types of MOOCs and learn more about the successes and findings from their first MOOC, which finished in early March.
