There will be an information session on the “Planning & Design Practice in Asia” Study Abroad on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 209 of the Human Ecology Building. The Study Abroad to South Korea and China will take place May 15-June 12, 2014, and is open to all majors.

“Planning & Design Practice in Asia” is a four-week program designed for students with an interest in cities, design and sustainability, to experience planning and design practices in China and South Korea. The program targets upper-level undergraduates and graduate students as primary participants.

During this program, students will be exposed to the challenges and development issues of planning and design practices in cities in these countries, and be motivated to compare their newly acquired knowledge to practices in the United States. In addition to understanding urban and design issues from an Asian perspective, the program will also feature the many dimensions of planning and design for mega events, such as the Olympics, World Cup and World’s Fairs. The program utilizes organization presentations, field study, original research and class discussion. Students, regardless of their courses and credit distribution, will be expected to participate in all aspects of the program in order to further personal engagement, critical thinking and intercultural interactions among students from China, South Korea and the U.S.
