August 2004 Meeting Minutes

August 18, 2004:

1. We need to re-register HOGS as an Registered Student Organization.  Erin Hill made some changes to the constitution.  Changed constitution was passed around and approved by HOGS members.  The constitution will be submitted to the Office of Student Life.

2. We need to decide on a SPRING SEMINAR topic ASAP.  Some suggestions:

            a. New research in whole plant physiology or environmental physiology

            b. Post-harvest of vegetables, fruit, flowering plants

**Email any other suggestions on topics and a person to teach the seminar to Roberto Lopez.

3.  Dario spoke on GPC issues.

a. Idea of allowing other seminars like CSS or ECON to replace HRT and PBG seminars.  This way options will be more available in other topics.

b. GPC said recruitment funds must be used for new graduate students only and cannot be allocated elsewhere.

c. There is new GRE scoring taking place on the analytical part.  What is the minimum score now for HRT department?

4. CSS/HRT challenge: sign up for Aug. 27 games! There should be fliers in mailboxes and in hallways for more information.

5.  PARTY FOR GRADUATES:  set for date of Saturday Aug. 28… the location to be announced later.  Look for email from Grant.  (We will have REAL MEAT- no hotdogs or hamburgers!)

6. There have been no faculty or hort club meetings, so there were no reports from these officers.

7.  Next meeting there will be new faculty members joining us.  Look for update on whom later.

8. $$$ Look for email from Jessica on DUES.  She will be collecting money soon. $$$

9.  Website: email Erin any events, conferences, pictures, etc for the website.  Also if anyone has suggestions or creative ideas for HOGS bulletin board let Erin or Roberto know.
