September 2004 Meeting Minutes

September 22, 2004:

1. Roberto: Grad/Undergrad Mentors

S. Lang-undergrad program chair

- passed around sign-up sheet

- will be based on student interaction

- advise on courses and future plans for those wanting to go to grad school

2. Erin- Faculty meeting

- finishing 7 essential elements to phd

- maybe make one for masters

- revising grad hand bood

- next faculty meeting next week

3. Dario- GPC meeting

- seminar votes: 1. new frontiers in organic horticulture 2. environmental plant physiology 3. environmental technology post harvest, etc

- seminar- new guidelines: could be professor or post-doc, students present 5 min papers, every one turn 3 discussion topics/questions before meeting, etc.

- professor votes: John Biernbaum, Bob Schutzki, Ron Perry, Jim Flore

- 7 essential elements discussion: input of students for masters 7 essential elements, proposed outline instead of extensive proposal, 1^st semester deadline, proposal go to committee and GPC

- Fall Welcome Picnic- no one there- encourage students to attend

- GRE: no more minimum set for college and our program, will be up to professor who they decide to take

4. Yufei- Social Chair

-Will email info about next month social- camping!

- HORT club going to Niagra Falls Oct 1- $7.50/night

- Liz hosting Halloween party

5. Josh: Representative from Hort Club

-pumpkin sale happening soon

-GIC 1^st week in November

-all invited to speak at Hort Club weekly meetings

6. Introduction of students and new professors
