November 2005 Meeting Minutes             

Greg Lang: presented the new graduate student handbook with the following changes

Pg 5: graduate student responsibilities- read and familiarize

Pg 8: table of important milestones and time lines students will encounter

Pg 12: responsible conduct of research- read and familiarize

- for more information can read Research Integrity Bulletin and attend school integrity meetings

Pg 13: graduate teaching experience

-         no longer required but is suggested

-         speak with major professor about teaching experience

-         GPC can help if teaching experience questions

Pg 18: new semester progress reports

Pg 19: new info on Integrity issues

Pg 25: list of web resources

A-4: new student semester progress report forms

A-5: new teaching experience form

A-15: revised exit form

Matt and Rolo:

Spring Seminar:

-Randy Beaudry has donated his time to teach “Postharvest physiology of horticultural crops”

-         will focus on O2, CO2, temperature and growth regulators and their biology, technology, biochemistry, genetics, etc.

-         please suggest topics of interest and look for more information to come

Travel Grants:

- deadline is Dec. 31 and available for travel Jan1 to June 30

Graduation Dinner:

-5 students graduating: Matt, Erin, Robert, Christlyn, and Choi

-look for info on celebratory dinner

-Steve VanNocker seminars- may be in spring but will have more information soon

Jay- Hort Club:

-Dec 1st broomball at Munn 11pm

-bring $1 for cost of stick

-bake sale week after Thanksgiving

-look for information about holiday party

Dan – COGS:

-Issue on University village removal and where graduate students live

-University agreed on terms of downloading music and movies

            -$15/month and extra $ if want to burn music to CD’s

-Travel grant $ available

            -will have lottery and deadline is on website

            -need proof attending presentation

-New statistical training and consulting center for more statistics help

            -look on website

Kristin- Faculty meeting:

-Rebecca Grummit-Associate Chair person

-         have decided to make the position permanent in the future

-January getting new security cards for after-hours access to building

-Online application for future graduate students and online forms for current graduate students

Erin-Social Chair:

-need to set up elections for new social chair since Erin graduating

-Dec 15th department Christmas party in afternoon

-Will have some kind of fun event for display case- look for flyers for more info
