October 2005 Meeting Minutes             

Presidents (Matt and Roberto)

-         Tropical Plant Sale did not raise much money, but enough to pay for our lunch today

-         Roberto will attend the next GPC meeting to address concerns regarding the lack of information from our department at a recent recruiting conference

GPC/Faculty (Kristin)

-         Faculty voted to make the TEACHING ASSISTANT requirement now OPTIONAL, perhaps in the future it will become an 800 level course

-         GPC would like a topic SOON for the HRT 894 spring seminar, there are very few students taking the course, this will be brought up at the next GPC meeting

COGS (Dan)

-         Unable to attend the meeting

Social (Erin)

-         Dow Gardens Trip: departing @ 11:00am this Friday, bring a lunch or $$ to stop and buy food

-         HALLOWEEN PARTY: October 21st @ 8:00pm @ the Horticulture Farm      Bring your own drinks and music                            HOGS/Hort Club will provide snacks, games, prizes               Costume contest

-         PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST: Pick up pumpkins Tuesday, Oct. 18th      Bring them back in carved Oct. 20th before NOON                  Faculty, staff, and students will judge                           Prizes for top 3!!!

-         Broomball with Hort Club      Thursday, December 1st Midnight-2:00am??

Hort Club (Squirrel)

-      Andy T’s hayride          Thursday, October 20th                         Don’t burn the Straw Bales

-       PUMPKIN SALE       Friday,October 21st     

-      Fright Night @ Lugnuts Stadium         Saturday, October 29th              Earn $$ for the club by scaring kids

Miscellaneous

-     Jay brought a proposal asking for HOGS’ support for bringing Mark Shepard (Forest Agriculture Enterprises, LLC) to talk about agroforestry and permiculture design on November 4th and 5th.  HOGS voted to donate $150 for support of this speaker.
