Non-Credit Enrollment

Auditing/Visiting Students through Lifelong Education

If you are interested in our courses for informational purposes only, and do not need academic credit or a certificate, you may enroll under “visitor status” through the MSU Lifelong Education enrollment process.

  • Not required to do the weekly assignments.
  • Still receive instructor feedback on any assignments you choose to complete.
  • May still ask questions and participate in all exercises.
  • Same course experience and course material as for-credit students.
  • Will not receive a negative grade or grade of “incomplete” if you do not fully participate in assignments.
  • Not eligible for the International Food Law Certificate.
  • Auditor/Visitors enroll through the MSU system and select "Lifelong."
  • Auditor/Visitors must contact the Office of the Registrar (reg@msu.edu) at the time of enrollment or prior to the fifth day of a 3-credit course (second day for 2-credit courses) to have the visitor code added to your record.
  • MSU's in- and out-of-state tuition rates apply for visitors.

Workshop Enrollment Option

If you do not need college credit or a transcript, and you do not wish to enroll through Lifelong education, you may take any of our courses as an online, non-credit “workshop.” One advantage is that international and out-of-state students who register under workshop status are charged a rate closer to MSU's Lifelong Education in-state tuition.

Click here for the workshop registration form. Contact IFLR (IFLR@anr.msu.edu or 517-355-8295) to begin the enrollment process. You may also read about our workshop payment methods.

  • Workshop students enroll directly through IFLR, not through MSU Lifelong.
  • 2-Credit Workshop Course Tuition: Workshop (non-credit) participants pay (US) $1,453.00 for each short course in the 2017-2018 academic year.
  • 3-Credit Workshop Course Tuition: Workshop (non-credit) participants pay (US) $2,180.00 for each full semester course in the 2017-2018 academic year.
  • Not required to do the weekly assignments.
  • Still receive instructor feedback on any assignments you choose to complete.
  • May still ask questions and participate in all exercises.
  • Same course experience and course material as for-credit students.
  • Will not receive a negative grade or grade of "incomplete" if you do not fully participate in assignments.
  • No grade is given. Participants receive a certificate of participation upon request.
  • Non-credit courses are not eligible to be applied towards the requirements for the International Food Law Certificate.
