These informal programs provide both classroom and outdoor opportunities to learn more about horticulture and home gardening. We will explore the grounds and gardens of Hidden Lake Gardens, Michigan State University and Ella Sharp Park. We will discuss anything and everything that we find along the way.

The concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for insect, disease and environmental problems in the landscape will be featured. We will explore a wide range of alternatives for managing problems of trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns. These will include proper plant selection, biological controls, mechanical methods and cultural alternatives.

Ralph Heiden, Michigan State University Extension Horticulture Educator, will be the instructor for this series of programs. The series is intended primarily for homeowners, Master Gardeners and hobbyists although anyone with an interest in plants may attend. Enrollment will be limited so that everyone can hear the presenter and get a chance to ask questions. Pre-registration is highly recommended.

Note: Master Gardeners may use these classes towards their continuing education requirements for recertification. They may be counted on an hour by hour basis i.e. a two hour class represents two hours of credit.
