Required Qualifications and Education
Qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree in Urban, City or Regional Planning or closely related field, such as Urban Studies, Sustainable Urban Development or Urban Sustainability. ABD will be considered with Ph.D. or equivalent degree completed by August 31, 2018. Candidates with a doctorate in Geography or closely related disciplines with a strong background in urban, city or regional planning and sustainable urban development with credentials comparable to at least a Master’s degree in Urban, City or Regional Planning, and demonstrated ability to teach introductory and upper-level planning courses are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate dedication to excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in urban and regional planning and land-use planning, have an active research agenda related to planning and sustainability; commitment to continued scholarly and professional growth, and interest in community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications and Education
Professional experience in urban and regional planning, strong commitment to sustainability, knowledge of urban planning geo-visualization software and ability to use it to enhance teaching and learning, record of published work, and teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions
Duties each semester include a baseline 9 credit-hour teaching load, baseline scholarship and service, and a significant focus area, equivalent to 3 credit hours, typically dedicated to research and scholarship. Teaching responsibilities include an introductory course in urban and regional planning and upper-level courses in land-use planning and environmental planning and/or land-use and planning policy and law.
Employment begins August 6, 2018
Responsibilities – Non-essential Functions
Desirable but not required functions include advising to the Student Urban Planning Association and willingness and ability to seek extramural funding and develop projects with local planning organizations and other community partners.
