The Baltimore Country Club is seeking a Horticulturist for its Five Farms campus in Timonium, MD. This full-time position is responsible for the installation, care, and maintenance of plants and landscape features throughout our historic and botanically-diverse grounds for the enjoyment of members and guests year-round.  The Horticulturist works closely with the Director of Horticulture, and responsibilities will include garden installation and maintenance, watering, IPM, management of the club’s herb and vegetable gardens, seasonal rotations, and holiday decorating.  Additionally, there is opportunity to gain supervisory experience in providing occasional direction and supervision to the Horticulture Department’s staff members.  The Horticulturist assists with educational outreach to our members, including workshops in container gardening, wreath making, and youth programs.

Baltimore Country Club, founded in 1898, is among the oldest and most prestigious country clubs in the country.  It was named by LINKS magazine among the top 100 clubs in the world.  It is one of only 7 clubs in the country to operate on two campuses.  The Five Farms campus is comprised of over 400 acres and includes two 18-hole golf courses.  Our championship East Course, designed by A. W. Tillinghast, has hosted 7 major tournaments and will be hosting the Big 10 Golf Championship this year and in 2018. 

The Horticulture Department is responsible for care of the extensive landscaping and gardens of the clubhouse grounds, pool complex, fitness facility, and tennis courts, as well as several perennial gardens on the golf courses.  Additionally, the horticulture team cares for the club’s production gardens, including a 50-tree apple orchard, vegetable garden, and herb garden, all of which provide fresh produce to the kitchens for use by our culinary team. 

Interested candidates should have a two- or four-year degree in Horticulture or a related field or equivalent experience and/or training. The candidate should be personable, self-motivated, quality-driven, passionate, have excellent communication and organizational skills, plant materials knowledge, and problem solving abilities.  Candidates should have a basic knowledge of best practices, IPM, equipment operation, principles of design.  Spanish language skills are desirable. This is a hands-on position and candidates must be capable of performing landscaping activities, repetitive tasks and be capable of lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.  Some weekend mornings, overtime hours, snow removal, and holidays are required seasonally.  Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record required.
