Berry Entomology Lab and Field Summer Position

We seek field and laboratory assistants for multiple research projects working in raspberries and blueberries involving Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD), a major invasive insect in berries. This is an excellent chance to learn about insects and agriculture! Extended stays (2-3 days) at an MSU field research station in Berrien County, MI may be required (accommodations are covered). The majority of this position will be fieldwork (70%) but will also include greenhouse and laboratory work (30%). Daily tasks may include: travel to field sites in university vehicle (travel time is paid), natural enemy and pest scouting, pollinator collection, SWD colony maintenance, setting up pesticide bioassays, data entry, collecting fruit, and measuring fruit yields. This job is based out of our lab at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.
Employment Period: May 1 2017 – August 31 2017, with some flexibility on start and end dates. Continued employment in fall/winter 2017 may be possible depending on funding and performance.
Full Time: 40 hours/week
Starting salary: $11/hr
