The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a City Arborist. This position, under direction, will plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise activities associated with the development, maintenance, and care of trees on city property and rights-of-ways.
Development and execute an urban forestry plan for all public property.
Design and administer a tree assessment and maintenance management program.
Develop and administer a tree inspection process for all publically owned trees.
Coordinate issues and provide professional recommendations with other divisions, departments, agencies, developers, public utilities, and the general public.
Respond to requests for information by the public and investigate complaints.
Develop educational programs, coordinate volunteer activities, work with community groups on tree related issues, and prepare and deliver public service announcements.
Plan, prioritize, supervise and train the work of staff responsible providing urban forestry services.
Prepare and submit applications for public and private grant funding and carry out funded programs.
Perform the full range of shrub and flower bed maintenance: plant, water, fertilize, control weeds, trim, prune and maintain landscaped areas.
Operate vehicles and equipment including dump trucks, tractors, loaders, and hand and power tools.
Perform duties involved in pest control.
Remove fallen trees and related debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.
Participate in the preparation and administration of the parks budget.
A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in urban forestry. Supervisory experience preferred, or demonstrated skills/training in supervision.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field.
Essential duties require the following skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 lbs.; exposure to noise, outdoors, confining work space, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; availability for on-call.
