Weddings, live music, lavender, distillation, retail, events, we do it all on our 33 acre farm - but we need interns to help us grow. We are a large agritourism destination in Northern Michigan; a unique small business work environment where interns will have the opportunity to learn alongside business owners to create valuable work experiences. Our interns will engage in projects that have a direct and sizable impact on the company while surrounded by the scents and scenery of acres of lavender.

Job Description:

Lavender Hill Farm is looking for an energetic individual to assist with the agricultural side of our agritourism business. He or she will work alongside our Director of Agricultural Operations and the owners to assist in all areas.

Work Hours and Days:

Our farm is open 7 days a week from 10am – 5pm starting May 11th through mid-October. We are flexible on a start and end date for this seasonal position and because of the nature of outdoor work we appreciate flexible work schedules when weather is a factor. This internship can be structured as a 20 hr/wk part time experience, a 40 hr/wk internship to satisfy 400 hour graduation requirements, or anything in between.

Job Responsibilities:

Tasks and job responsibilities will vary depending on the person and the time of year. Some examples include:

  • Planting lavender and sunflower plants
  • Harvesting
  • Processing lavender harvest
  • Steam distillation of lavender plant material to produce essential oil
  • Managing farm tools and implements
  • Maintaining grounds, gardens, and plots
  • Conceptual development and construction of new plots
  • Assisting Events Team when needed
  • Giving guided tours of the farm
  • Driving golf carts
  • Answering visitors’ questions
  • Operating machinery such as leaf blowers, lawn mowers and hedge trimmers

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledgeable about basic plant health and needs
  • Must work well in both team and individual work environments
  • Enjoys being outside and working with plants
  • Motivated and positive
  • Willing and able to lift and bend to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Hard working with good decision-making skills
  • Experience working in a garden, nursery, or farm is preferable.
