Interns will assist in all aspects of research wine production focusing on daily winemaking operations from grape to bottle. Interns will work in the Modesto-based Research Winery, a 10-gallon scale state-of-the-art winery. This is a fast paced and challenging internship for students. Highest consideration will be given to candidates with previous experience and interest in winemaking or food processing.
Assist in all aspects of small-lot wine production – from crushing of grapes to packaging of wine.
Participate in fermentation sampling and wine tasting.
Inform Research Winemaker when winemaking and fermentation issues arise.
Clean and maintain Research Winery equipment. Maintain a clean work environment.
Accurately record and document data. Enter data into Research Winery database.
Understand and follow safety procedures.
Properly handle and maintain chemicals.
Collect and submit samples for analysis.
High school diploma or GED
Must be in junior standing and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Fermentation Science, Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Animal Science, Plant Science, Agricultural Business, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Viticulture.
Must be 21 years or older
Must be able to lift 50lbs on occasion
Permanent, legal right to work in U.S.; the Research department at Gallo does not sponsor or renew visas for the positions
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Good oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple assignments
