Purpose of Position
The Urban & Community Forestry (U&CF) Program Manager embraces statewide responsibilities. The Program Manager initiates a State U&CF Program Strategic Plan, at least every 5 years; writes and administers the Professional Services Contract (PSA) for the statewide Volunteer Coordinator Contractor (currently Tree New Mexico); leads the NM Urban Forest Council (NM UFC); is the state representative for United States Forest Service (USFS) Region 3 on the Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) Urban & Community Forestry Committee; manages the NM State Big Tree Program; manages the NM Forest Re-Leaf Program and leads the Tree Planting Advisory Committee (TPAC); leads the statewide Back Yard Tree Farm Program; and represents and promotes the direction, philosophy, and strategic plan elements of the EMNRD Forestry Division. The Urban & Community Forestry Program Manager position is a required element for state participation in the National Urban & Community Forestry Program, funded by Congress and directed by the USFS.
A Bachelor’s Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional level experience operating within limited parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
