Genus Discolaimus Cobb, 1913

Diagnosis: “Discolaiminae. Numerous large glandular bodies in the lateral chords.  Lip region very expanded, sucker like, surrounding the sunken mouth.  Odontostyle robust, with large aperture.  Female gonads paired.  Tail short, rounded or bluntly conoid in both sexes.” Vinciguerra, 2006

Diagnosis of Discolaiminae: “Qudsianematidae. Cuticle smooth with numerous glandular cells and pores.  Lip region expanded, sometimes discoidal or sucker-like.  Odontostyle short, with large opening; guiding ring simple.  Vulva transverse; vagina not sclerotized.  Tail short, conoid or rounded in both sexes.” Vinciguerra, 2006

 “Definition:  Dorylaiminae.  Characterized by the disc-like lip region, expanded much more widely than the head constriction.  Lateral chords with a series of glandular organs, each with a duct extending through the cuticle and forming a single lateral row of pores on either side.  Amphid apertures practically invisible beneath projecting lips.  Anterior fixed ring of guiding sheath relatively high in pharynx.  Oesophagus beginning as an elongate, spindle-shaped swelling around the base of the spear extension, then extending behind and expanding rather suddenly to form the main muscular portion.  Dorsal oesophageal gland placed rather further back than in other Dorylaims; its duct extending a little forward before entering the oesophageal lumen.  Female gonad single or double, reflexed.  Spicules broad, slightly arcuate.  Lateral guiding pieces present.  Supplements consisting of a pre-anal pair and a ventral row.”  From Goodey, 1963, and Powers and Mullin website  http://nematode.unl.edu/.
