Western Riding: Day 3

One of the things that we like to do is create amazing memories at camp, which is why we got the campers to decorate picture frames in the afternoon. By Friday, we will have printed photos of each camper smiling with one horse to take home with them, so they can remember the amazing time that they had! Even the horses sometimes smile for the camera!

We call this as such since that is the time that the campers spend with the horses the most, learning how to ride and maneuver and do obstacle courses. Since this is the main activity that the campers do, we always make sure that they have all their gear on properly, going over safety every time before you get on to the saddle. While other groups were riding you got to paint your picture frame or continue painting the chia plant pot from yesterday. Also, you could give our lovely horse Mango a spa day with grooming!

Western Tack & Collage

This was a segment where the campers learned more about the different kinds of western tacking, as well as the different kinds of equipment that you can use to help the horse and rider while riding. There were a lot of different saddles that you could use as well. Afterwards, the campers began taking horse magazines and making collages out of the different kinds of horses that they saw. It was a really creative activity that made the campers think about how to make the collages out of different pieces of magazine paper, while also keeping the picture of the horses.

Barrel Racing/Line Dance

Not the horses, but the campers did some barrel racing, around cones and bins, to see who had the fastest time possible! This had everybody smiling and laughing. We also learned how to do some line dancing, which is very very fun to do as a large group, since the campers had to work together as a team to dance, as well as to not crash into one another! Again, lots and lots of fun was had today!
