USDA APHIS has recently released a risk assessment on the long-distance movement of firewood. It has been known for a while that moving firewood helped spread emerald ash borer from Michigan to other states, including some jumps of hundreds of miles. You can read the APHIS assessment at: www.emeraldashborer.info under “Moving Firewood.”
