Allen Receives 2018 Graduate School Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award

Michael Allen, University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Animal Science, received the 2018 Graduate School Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award for a senior faculty member.

allen_mikeNominating letters detailed the professional and personal impact he has had on student lives, including the supportive and collaborative atmosphere within his lab, and his encouragement of individual career goals.

According to the The Graduate School website description of the award, the Outstanding Faculty Mentor is "a faculty member who works to ensure that his/her students meet program expectations and milestones, and provides multiple enriched career and professional development opportunities (through, e.g., research experiences that go beyond the requirements of the dissertation, professional development and networking opportunities, community engagement experiences, enhanced teaching preparation, collaborative research/ scholarship/ creative activities)."

The Graduate School will provide Dr. Allen with $1,500 to support mentoring activities, as well as an engraved plaque in honor of the award.
