American Fisheries Society’s President’s Fishery Conservation Award

Congratulations to Dave Fielder, acting research station manager at the Alpena Fisheries Research Station, and Mike Thomas, fisheries research biologist at the Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station, for their recent recognition.

Congratulations to Dave Fielder, acting research station manager at the Alpena Fisheries Research Station, and Mike Thomas, fisheries research biologist at the Lake St. Clair Fisheries Research Station, for their recent recognition at the American Fisheries Societies’ annual meeting in Quebec! This recognition was supported by many staff throughout our division and is well deserved.  When combined, Dave and Mike have authored more than 20 publications and reports documenting changes in the Saginaw Bay ecosystem, mechanisms underlying walleye population dynamics, and have developed practical applications for monitoring and assessing walleye in the bay and other coolwater systems nationwide. They collaborate widely, both within our agency and beyond, and connect our stakeholders with our Great Lakes Fisheries through extensive commitments to education and outreach. Both Dave and Mike are outstanding individuals to help explain in simple ways what is happening out in the lakes and why. Our messaging and interaction with our stakeholders is always paramount to our continued success. Thanks Dave and Mike and keep up the great work!
