Department of Forestry, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Michigan State University Position description: The Department of Forestry at Michigan State University is seeking a full-time Academic Specialist to oversee undergraduate programs. Reporting to the Department Chairperson, the Specialist will be responsible for advising undergraduate students as to their academic program and progress, coordinating the professional internship program, and providing career advice, professional development opportunities, and assistance in job placement. In addition, the Specialist will actively recruit undergraduate students through attendance of recruiting workshops and academic orientation sessions, overseeing brochures, and utilizing social media. The Specialist will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies to administer the undergraduate program, assisting students with course substitutions, waivers, and transfers, and to coordinate the scholarship application and award process. The Specialist will represent the Department as liaison to the Honors College and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Office of Academic and Student Affairs. This position also acts as the advisor to the MSU Forestry Club and the Student Chapter of the Society of American Foresters. Teaching responsibilities include the administration of one online course and the professional internships.

Founded in 1902, MSU’s Department of Forestry is among the first and most prestigious Forestry programs in the United States, with growing undergraduate enrollment and strong support from over 2,000 alumni. Required qualifications: The successful candidate will have a combination of educational background and professional experience in 1) academic advising, education or leadership, and 2) natural resources, broadly defined. While a Master’s degree in a natural resources field is preferred, the minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree. We seek an enthusiastic academic advisor, dedicated to fostering the success of our undergraduates, growing our dynamic and intellectually-strong undergraduate program, and using their knowledge of Natural Resources career options and professional networks to help place our students in exciting internships and lifelong careers.

The position will be based on the beautiful Michigan State University campus in East Lansing, Michigan, USA.
