CANR Dean's Update - Oct. 1, 2017

A message from Ron Hendrick, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

CANR Colleagues,

I am hoping that your fall semester is off to a great start!

Whether it’s by giving directions, serving as a mentor or just stopping to say hello, thank you for welcoming our students, new faculty and staff to the college in any small what that you have.

Last year I spent a lot of time getting to know the college and our stakeholders, much of which took me off campus. This fall and academic year, I’d like to spend more time getting to know, and listening to, those who work with us on campus, in an informal setting.

To accomplish this, I have scheduled a few lunches during the first couple weeks of October. Please join me for lunch – don’t get too excited, I’m asking everyone to bring their own lunch, though I will bring dessert – on the following dates in these locations:

  • 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m., Oct. 3, 1310 Anthony Hall for the following departments: ANS, BAE, FSHN
  • 11:45 a.m. -1 p.m., Oct. 9, 9 Human Ecology for the following departments: SPDC, AFRE, ENT and AG HALL
  • 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 11, 338 Natural Resources for the following departments: FOR, FW, CSUS, PKG
  • 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 12, 271, Plant & Soil Sciences for PSM and HRT

In other news, Nancy D. Turner has accepted our offer to become chair of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. She will begin her post in January. You can read more about Dr. Turner on the FSHN website.

As Dr. Millenbah noted in an email earlier this week, the search committee for the CANR Associate Dean and Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has identified three candidates for on-campus interviews.

Full details will follow in the next week, however, please plan to join us for the presentation sessions. Watch for Kelly’s email with full details with times and locations will follow in the next week. Names of candidates will be released later as they are working to alert their respective supervisors they have made the interview list.

  • 9 a.m., Monday, October 16
  • 9 a.m., Monday, October 30
  • 9 a.m., Wednesday, November 1

I am looking forward to seeing many of you over lunch and for the upcoming Diversity, Equity and Inclusion presentations.

Ron Hendrick
