Entomology student winners at 2015 Entomological Society of America meeting

The Department of Entomology was well represented at the 2015 Entomological Society of America annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nov. 15-18. Congratulations to the following students who won awards.

The Department of Entomology was well represented at the 2015 Entomological Society of America annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nov. 15-18. Congratulations to the following students who won awards:

  • Knute Gundersen (PhD, Isaacs Lab) – 2nd place in the Graduate Poster Competition: Honey Bees and Related Pollinators
  • Ari Grode (MS, Szendrei Lab) – 1st place in the Graduate Poster Competition: Nursery and Specialty Crops
  • Heather Leach (MS, Isaacs Lab) – 1st place in the Graduate Poster Competition: Invasive Species
  • Rachel Osborn (PhD, Cognato Lab) – 1st place in the Graduate Poster Competition: Phylogeny
  • Sara Hermann (PhD, Landis Lab) – 2nd place in the Graduate Ten-Minute Paper Competition: Biology/Behavior
  • Jessica Kansman (former undergrad, Szendrei Lab) – 1st place in the Graduate Ten-Minute Paper Competition: IPM
  • Mike Mueller (former undergrad, Grieshop Lab) – 2nd place in the Undergraduate Poster Competition

Sarah Smith was also awarded the Jean Theodore Lacordaire prize from the Coleopterists Society during ESA. The Coleopterists Society holds its annual meeting in conjunction with ESA. The award “gives annual recognition to the finest work by young Coleopterists... the Prize represents the attainment of the highest achievement for Ph.D. dissertation research based on the biology and evolution of beetles.”
