Extension takes part in outreach events for families

Summer is a busy time for many programs in MSU Extension. Throughout summer and all year long, MSU Extension can be found at outreach events in many communities.

Spreading awareness of Michigan State University Extension and all the great programs we have to offer is important. During summer 2016, MSU Extension will be at a variety of locations in your area doing hands-on activities at events and providing the general public with a glimpse of what programs we have to offer. The following are just a few events in the central Michigan area.

4-H Day at Dow Gardens is Wednesday, July 13, in Midland, Michigan from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families are encouraged to visit the Dow Gardens and stop at booths around the children’s garden. Booths include learning about health living, money, science, crafts and more. This is a great family event and is open to families.

Great Dairy Adventure is Wednesday, July 20, in East Lasing, Michigan at the MSU Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This great event is open to families and explores the dairy industry. Youth get to milk a cow, learn about nutrition, sample cheese and see baby calves. This is a free event and provides a great daytrip for little ones. Many daycare centers also visit this event each summer.

Local farmer’s markets take place throughout the summer and throughout the state. MSU Extension will be at many farmer’s markets promoting information and programs we have to offer to communities in Michigan. Some things that might be offered are handouts, fliers, pressure canner testing, hands-on activities and more. Stop by your local farmer’s market and look for MSU Extension.
