FSHN Spring faculty and staff news

Faculty and staff news for FSHN newsletter

Dale Romsos

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Dale Romsos, professor. Dale has been one of the mainstays of our department for many years, an exceptional nutritional biochemist renowned for his research program and well-respected by all who knew him in the American Society of Nutrition. In the past several years, Dale put his research aside so he could concentrate on teaching and advising  our nutritional sciences undergraduates. In this capacity, Dale developed a rigorous nutritional sciences undergraduate program that has seen numerous successful students become highly productive  professionals.  All of us wish Dale well in his retirement.

Mary Weinzweig

After more than 20 years as administrative assistant and staff supervisor, Mary Weinzweig is moving on to a new position in AgBioResearch.

“I have had the privilege to work with many outstanding staff members at MSU, and I believe that the high quality of our staff is one of MSU’s great strengths,” said Fred Derksen, chair of FSHN. “Mary is one of the best.”

During her tenure in the department, Mary served (educated) four department chairs, three of whom were present at a recent reception held in her honor. Mary has been a terrific steward of FSHN’s financial, human and physical resources, and she will be sorely missed.

Brooke Gallagher has assumed Mary's leadership position in FSHN.  Brooke comes to us from the Department of Entomology and the Legume Innovation Laboratory, where she managed multimillion-dollar grants and provided executive staff support to the faculty.

Deb Klein

Deb Klein retired in January 2014 after many years as the staff person in charge of academic undergraduate and graduate programs. Deb distinguished herself in this area and could always be relied on to complete her work on time and with the highest quality. All of us wish Deb the best in the next phase of her life.

Lainie Buckles has assumed Deb Klein's position. She comes to us from the MSU office of K-12 outreach programs and previously served as an executive assistant for the American Cancer Society.  Like Deb, Lainie will provide leadership in the academic area for course and curriculum support as well as graduate programs.

Carol Shaulis

Carol Shaulis has served as the department accountant for more than 40 years. Carol has done a terrific job, and thanks to her diligence, departmental finances are in excellent shape. Carol will reduce her efforts to 50 percent time, all of which will be devoted to enhancing the Dairy Plant financial system.

Erendira (Eri) Lack will fill the void left by Carol. Eri comes to our department from the cashier’s office, where she has been responsible for delinquent accounts and reporting. Eri will be responsible for oversight of research account activity and processing human resource documents.
