Published on January 9, 2015, the Garden to Cafeteria Guide includes information on food safety practices and food safety training information, resources for starting school gardens and incorporating garden education, pricing guides for produce and meals, and harvest and sales logs.

This Garden to Cafeteria Guide provides an approach for school garden educators and stakeholders, both experienced and newcomer, to successfully source products from school gardens for use in the cafeteria or food program. This guide was authored by Kaitlin Koch, MSU Extension and Colleen Matts from the Center for Regional Food Systems at MSU. Kaitlin said of the guide, “This will help school gardeners provide a holistic experiential educational experience for their students by learning about their food, growing it themselves and being able to eat it. For already established school gardeners, this guide provides tools to increase their production of fresh and safe products for use in their food programs.”

Funding for this guide was provided by W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the C.S. Mott Chair of Sustainable Agriculture at Michigan State University.
