ICPF 2017 TELECONFERENCE INTRODUCES THE BUSINESS OF CORRUGATED PACKAGING & DISPLAYS TO OVER 500 STUDENTS

 March 7, 2017

Alexandria, VA…This past February 23, over 500 packaging, graphic design, marketing & sales, supply chain management, business and other students and faculty on 18 college and university campuses participated in ICPF's interactive Teleconference on The Business of Corrugated Packaging & Displays and its Career Opportunities.  This annual event is not a webcast, but a live video conference utilizing professional WKAR TV personnel and TV broadcast equipment at the PBS studios, on the Michigan State campus in East Lansing, for two-way interactivity. In addition to Michigan State's Packaging School that had the largest audience with 126 students, participating campuses included Appalachian State University, Bowling Green State University, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Dunwoody College of Technology, Indiana State University, Illinois State University, Lewis-Clark State College, Millersville University, North Carolina A & T University, Rutgers University, University of Florida, University of Texas-Arlington, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Virginia Tech.  Also, the graphic communications program at Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, KS that recently launched a packaging graphics major, participated for the first time this year.

The topic, "The Business of Corrugated Packaging & Displays and the Career Opportunities” was addressed by Andy Pierson (President of Mid-Atlantic Packaging) and Craig. Gunckel (President, Enterprise Solutions & Merchandising Displays for WestRock). Marysa Kotsogiannis, a December, 2015 Michigan State packaging school graduate who is a packaging and graphic designer at Green Bay Packaging in Chicago, moderated the Teleconference.  Marysa was recruited by Green Bay Packaging through ICPF. The panel presentation was followed by a round of live questions remotely directed to the panelists from each of the participating campuses.

The Teleconference's grand finale included ICPF's annual Best of the Best, Student Design Presentation Competition. Four student teams, two from Millersville University, a student from Appalachian State and a team from Cal Poly, were tasked to show, tell and sell their designs (that won first or second place in a separate 2016 competition conducted by AICC) by explaining the objective, the research conducted, design and other background. Appalachian State secured first place and second place went to the Cal Poly student team.  The two Millersville teams won third and fourth place.  Each team was awarded a cash prize.
