Lathrop receives 2024 Spirit of CANR Award

Ashley Lathrop, of the Department of Community Sustainability, to receive 2024 Spirit of CANR Award

Ashley Lathrop, of the Department of Community Sustainability, will receive the 2024 Spirit of CANR Award on May 2.

The Spirit of CANR Award recognizes a support staff member who is committed to representing CANR and MSU by embodying the CANR mission through one or more of its values.

Ashley Lathrop is a senior administrative business professional in the Department of Community Sustainability and a proud MSU alum. In her role, Lathrop works to improve processes and culture within the department, hoping to encourage a more cohesive and enjoyable work environment for all. Lathrop is known for her positive energy, and consistently shows genuine excitement about the teaching, research and outreach being done in CSUS.

According to one nominator, “Having been on campus for over 25 years, I have worked with very few people who are as committed to the success of students, faculty and staff as Ashley is. Ashley’s dedication to students, faculty and staff is evident in her willingness to serve as a role model in creating positive relationships within our department, CANR and the greater MSU community.”

Regarded as a well-seasoned problem solver, Lathrop has played a pivotal role in fostering positive change in her department, including creating video tutorials addressing common issues and forming social-justice partnerships to strengthen the community atmosphere of CSUS.

According to another nominator, “When I think of Ashley the words that come to mind are hardworking, dedicated, and positive. Ashley always greets members of our department with a smile and a laugh. She is so very positive with all the people she works with each day. This positive attitude is backed up by a genuine caring for getting the work you need help with done and done right. She is willing to spend extra time and cares about meeting the deadlines even when they can be unreasonable.”
