Less suburbs and more urban, that’s the trend in Michigan’s larger cities, according to a report called the WalkUP Wake Up Call.

A study from George Washington University in partnership with MSU shows walkable urban places are emerging in the state’s top seven metro areas including Lansing and Jackson.

The report backs the claim up by the rise of rent and price premiums for walkable real-estate over the last several years.

National polls have shown that half of the American population wants to live in a walkable residence, but only 8 percent of the total housing stock in the Michigan metro areas is walkable.
