A series of International awards were presented to Michigan State University students on March 26. Rajeeth Dev Anand, an undergraduate student in the Construction Management Program in the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction, was awarded the Homer Higbee International Education award.

The award was established to honor Homer Higbee, who served in the Office of International Studies and Programs at MSU for 25 years, dedicating his life to international and education exchange. The award is presented to a full-time student that demonstrates the passion and characteristics of Homer Higbee, including making significant contributions to support international awareness at Michigan State University through involvement in programs that promote cultural understanding on campus and in the community.

This year, Dev Anand was one of three recipients of the award, and one of two international students. He is undoubtedly a visionary for this award as he was nominated not once, but three times by separate sources.

“It’s such a prestigious award, and I’m proud to have something to show, to leave a legacy for other aspiring students. I am so honored,” he said.

Originally from India, Dev Anand began his education at MSU Dubai. After the facility was shut down a year later, he decided to continue his education here at Michigan State University. Through his time here, Dev Anand has been involved in a plethora of campus clubs and events. His most notable participation is with the International Students Association, of which he became President during his second year of participation. Dev Anand has also participated as an MLK planning committee member. One thing he undoubtedly excels in is time management, considering all of his involvement with different groups.

It’s not only his participation in international MSU organizations that won him the award, but also his dedication to work experience in the Construction Management field. Dev Anand has experience with both commercial and residential infrastructure estimations from time spent working in India and Dubai. Though his roots are in India, Dev Anand does not plan on returning home to India to pursue his career, instead keeping his sights set on the U.S. and beyond.

He considers his involvement to be about breaking barriers and bringing international and domestic students together in unity. When asked about his future, Dev Anand said that he wants to keep his options open. He graduates in May 2014, and is searching for employment, for the time being. Eventually he plans to go on to earn his MBA.

Please join SPDC in congratulating Rajeeth Dev Anand on his award!
