PhD student Nurul Ahmad chosen first place in IAFP poster competition

Nurul Ahmad, visiting scholar from Universiti Putra Malaysia and doctoral student with Dr. Elliot Ryser, was awarded 1st place in a national poster competition.

Nurul Ahmad and Hamoud Alnughaymishi, doctoral students with Dr. Elliot Ryser and Dr. Bradley Marks, were both selected from well over 100 entries as finalists for the J. Mac Geopfert Developing Scientist Poster Award Competition at the annual meeting of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP).

Nurul Ahmad took 1st place for her poster P2-87 entitled Validation of Enterococcus faecium NRRL B-2354 as a Surrogate for Thermal Inactivation of Salmonella in Date Paste. Over the years, students working with Dr. Ryser have received eight awards in this competition, including Gordon Davidson and Harry Wang, who each won twice. IAFP is the preeminent food safety meeting in North America that attracts leaders from academia, government and industry from around the globe.  Our strong presence at this conference contributes to the recognition of MSU as a leader in food safety.
