Potato and tomato late blight recommendations for growers with small production areas

There have been several reports of small tomato and potato plantings with late blight. Growers should consult the following resources from Michigan State University for management recommendations.

Several small tomato and potato plantings throughout Michigan have been reported with late blight over the past week (as of Aug. 21, 2014). “Tomato and Potato Late Blight Alert” describes recommendations for growers who do not have large production operations.

In addition, risk based on forecasted weather conditions can be found at the Michigan Late Blight Risk Monitoring website. More extensive recommendations for control of late blight on tomatoes can be found at the Hausbeck lab website.

Drs. Kirk and Hausbeck’s work is funded in part by MSU’s AgBioResearch.
