Each year, the Michigan State University (MSU) Construction Management Alumni and Industry Advisory Association Board seeks students majoring in Construction Management (CM) from the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) for nomination for their Student of the Year Award. These CM students must have achieved the highest level of academic accomplishment and possess high standards of integrity to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of MSU.

The 2014 Construction Management Student of the Year Award goes to Elizabeth Woroniecki, a recent spring graduate. Woroniecki considers herself to be committed to residential construction, a passion that first began with renovating houses with her father and has only grown stronger over the years.

Considered an outstanding student throughout her time at SPDC by her Academic Advisor, Jonglim Han Yoo, Woroniecki carries the passion she has for construction management throughout her life. She participated in many student activities during her college education, the most noteworthy being her involvement with the Student Builder and Contractors Association (SBCA), an SPDC student association—through which she served as a representative on the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Student Senate. Woroniecki volunteered for this position so that the Construction Management Program and SBCA would have a greater voice within the College.

“She goes the extra mile,” says Han Yoo, who nominated Elizabeth on behalf of the SPDC CM faculty.

Woroniecki also volunteered for the MSU University Activities Board for four years. “An experience,” she says, “that was had an unparalleled impact on my well-being at MSU.” She encouraged other students to get involved too.

Her advice to other students was to, “Immerse yourselves in this college experience and challenge yourselves to do something different.”

Woroniecki attributes many of the memories and friendships she developed at Michigan State to her involvement in student groups.

By the time of her graduation, Woroniecki had received reputable professional field experience, most recently with her participation in the National Association of Home Builders Residential Competition, for which she was encouraged to engage in by Han Yoo.

When asked about receiving the CM Student of the Year Award, Elizabeth shares, “It was that last crowning moment that wrapped up everything I’ve done in the last four years really nicely.”

Please join us as we congratulate Woroniecki for her achievements!
