2018 Saskatoon berry pesticide recommendations available

The 2018 chemical recommendations for insect, disease and weed management in saskatoon berry production in Michigan are now available to growers.

Saskatoon berry producers in Michigan face a number of important insect pests and fungal diseases. Pesticide recommendations for dealing with these problems in the 2018 growing season have been prepared by Michigan State University Extension. Growers have two ways to obtain the recommendations this year.

For the first time, a section on saskatoon berries had been added to the “Michigan Fruit Management Guide,” MSU Extension bulletin E154. This publication is available at many county Extension offices or the online MSU Extension Bookstore. The cost for this bulletin is $30 and it contains a lot of useful information in addition to the saskatoon recommendations. There are guidelines for safely using pesticides, sprayer calibration information, organic pest management, invasive and emerging pests, protecting pollinators from pesticides, using the MSU Enviroweather online tools for pest and production management, and many more important topics related to pest management for fruit crops. All commercial fruit growers should consider obtaining the annually updated version of this bulletin.
