SPDC welcomes two new Construction Management Program faculty

The MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) is pleased to welcome two new Assistant Professors to the Construction Management Program: George Berghorn, PhD, and Dong Zhao, PhD.

The MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) is pleased to welcome two new Assistant Professors to the Construction Management Program: George Berghorn, PhD, and Dong Zhao, PhD.

George Berghorn earned a PhD in Construction Management from MSU and a Master of Environmental Studies degree from Yale University. He is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and a Certified Green Professional from the National Association of Home Builders. Berghorn has worked on funded projects related to the feasibility of building deconstruction and material reuse, building science education and electric utility training. Prior to his career in higher ed, he was a construction project manager in the U.S. and a policy director for a statewide trade association. 

Dong Zhao earned a PhD in Building Construction from Virginia Tech. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional from the USGBC. Zhao's current research focuses on human-environment systems and risk mitigation decision-making, which requires integration of construction engineering, human factors, advanced informatics (BIM/VR), safety science, data mining and applied statistics. He has authored two scholarly books and more than 30 refereed scholarly publications with the focus on architecture, engineering and construction. He also serves as a reviewer or scientific committee member for more than 10 international journals and conferences. Zhao has professional experience from a variety of construction projects across Asia and America.
