The Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference will be held on January 24, 2015 at the Grand Traverse Resort, Acme, MI.

The Northern Michigan Small Farm annual conference serves as a forum for the open exchange of ideas within the small farm community and for building a local network of small farms, community businesses, and local government.

Keynote speaker Gary Zimmer is co-founder of Midwestern BioAg, an agricultural consulting and supply company that focuses on biological agriculture – an approach based on understanding and improving soils for successful and profitable agriculture. His keynote speech, “Scaling Up and Soil Fertility,” will address best practices – farming for maximum potential yield, quality, and sustainability. Zimmer is also a published author of Advancing Biological Farming and The Biological Farmer.

Workshops will include a vast array of topics, including: beekeeping for beginners, interpersonal skills for effective management, farm record keeping for NOP, GAP, and MAEAP, livestock grazing techniques for productivity and profitability, mobile hoophouse design and rotation planning, organic hop production, and group GAP certification.  A complete list of workshops and descriptions can be found here.

Online registration deadline is January 19, 2015. Day-of registration is available for an additional fee.
