USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue to visit Michigan State University

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will kick off his third “Back to Our Roots” RV tour Tuesday, April 3, at Michigan State University.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will kick off his third “Back to Our Roots” RV tour Tuesday, April 3, at Michigan State University.

Perdue will hear ideas and concerns from local farmers, agriculture students and researchers, business owners, community leaders, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) employees during a session at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education at 11 a.m.

Perdue will be joined by Administrator Linda McMahon, the head of the Small Business Administration, for part of the tour. The tour runs from Tuesday to Friday and includes stops in Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.

“As always, our ‘Back to Our Roots’ RV tour is an opportunity to get out of Washington, D.C., to hear directly from the American people in the agriculture community,” Perdue said. “While Congress continues its work on the Farm Bill, rural prosperity and many other agriculture priorities, USDA stands ready to assist in any way possible and to be a voice for America’s farmers, ranchers, producers and foresters.”

While on campus, Perdue will be hosted by the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dean Ron Hendrick.

“We are pleased to be hosting Secretary Perdue to show him some of the exciting work that’s going on in our college – from workforce development efforts to research on diseases that affect productivity and profits,” Hendrick said.

Online registration to attend the session at the Pavilion is requested at http://www.canr.msu.edu/usda-visit.
