Workshop to address opportunities, challenges of commercial chestnut production

CLARKSVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan chestnut industry has been growing steadily over the last decade, with a substantial amount of interest from new growers.

In response, Michigan State University Extension will hold a one-day workshop to introduce attendees to the opportunities and challenges of commercial chestnut production. The workshop will cover:

  • History of the industry in Michigan
  • Economic analysis of production
  • Orchard establishment and design
  • Pest management
  • Harvesting
  • Marketing
  • Storage

The Chestnut Orchard Establishment Workshop will be held April 20 from 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Clarksville Research Center in Clarksville, Michigan. The cost is $50, which includes lunch and support materials. To register, visit https://events.anr.msu.edu/chestnutworkshop2017/
