Summer Semester, 2006 (Mid May-Mid June)
Are you in Animal Science, Environmental Studies and Applications, Food Industry Management, Food Science, Horticulture, Tourism? Then France should be in your future! And you don’t even need to speak French!
This program introduces you to local community, environment and food systems in southern France. Visits to vegetable farms and vineyards, walks with sheep herders and talks with rice growers who also raise bulls for “racing” will broaden your horizons on food production, processing, marketing and adding value to fruits, vegetables, grains, as well as dairy and meat products.
Visiting and living in national and regional parks and staying in rural and farm “hotels” in three different agro-ecological zones offers an exciting comparative view of different approaches to environmental and biodiversity protection while promoting agriculture and tourism.
Learn about the social and cultural dimensions of food and farming in France? What does it mean for food and farming in the US?
Learn about different approaches to adding value to food products and how these help build closer producer-consumer relationships.
Learn how local governments and parks promote local tourism that focus on agriculture as well as natural resource protection.
