Logistical Packaging

Summer 2002

May 19-June 1

The School of Packaging offers a two-week study abroad program in Tokyo, Japan where students may earn up to six semester credits by studying the status of packaging and the development of packages for the Japanese and Pacific Rim markets.

The program provides insight into the Japan/Asia approach to packaging and the unique opportunity to experience the economic and cultural differences between the East and West. The program includes presentations by leading Japanese packaging experts and a number of tours to companies producing or using a variety of packaging and packaging materials. Topics that will be covered include economic and cultural markets and packaging in Japan, distribution packaging, consumer packaging development, aseptic packaging, graphic design, industrial packaging, and environmental concerns in Japan and Asia.

The "Packaging in Japan" program is offered to students at Michigan State University, as well as students in packaging and related disciplines at other institutions.
