Dr. Changyong Cao is an assistant professor in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (by courtesy) at the Michigan State University (MSU), where he is directing the Laboratory for Soft Machines and Electronics. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from the Australian National University (ANU) in 2014. Then he worked as a postdoctoral associate and visiting professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University before joining MSU. His research interests are primarily in the areas of soft materials, nanomaterials, emerging electronics as well as additive manufacturing, including smart materials and structures, soft robotics, printable/flexible/stretchable electronics, smart packaging system, biomedical devices, and 3D/4D printing materials and technologies. He is now serving as editorial board member of three journals and has published over 50 scientific papers in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Biotechnology, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Science, ACS Nano, Biomaterials, Extreme Mechanics Letters etc. Dr. Cao has been recognized by many awards and scholarships, including the ANU Vice Chancellor’s Awards, U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM) Travel Award, Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Abroad, IEEE Best Paper Award, and Best Poster Award from Materials Research Society (MRS) etc. He is a member of Materials Research Society (MRS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Engineering Science (SES), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), United States Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM), and Australian Nanotechnology Network (ANN).
